Season ends for Sara

A season which included a 12-game winning streak and four Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards ended abruptly for Fort Recovery graduate Sara Heitkamp and her Capital University women’s basketball team this week.

The Crusaders, who even climbed into the top 25 in Division III this year, were bounced from the OAC tournament with an 83-69 loss to Wilmington Thursday. They had beaten Wilmington 74-71 and 72-68 in the two previous meetings between the squads.

Heitkamp had a rough final game in her outstanding season, hitting just 3-of-12 field goals and going 0-for-5 from 3-point range on the way to scoring seven points. She did, however, notch team highs of five steals and three assists to go along with eight rebounds.

The sophomore earned her fourth OAC player of the week honor mostly because of her tremendous effort in a 65-51 win over Muskingum. She had career highs of 32 points and 17 rebounds in the contest.

She also led the Crusaders with 21 points in a 74-64 win over Ohio Northern which clinched the team a share of the OAC regular-season title.
