Collegiate Check-up

A week after making his first appearance in the lineup, Kurt Hess won his first match.

Hess, a 2006 Jay County High School graduate, earned his first collegiate victory Dec. 9 as the Wabash College wrestling team competed at the Ohio Northern University Invitational.

The freshman competed in the 141-pound weight class, advancing through the opening round by way of a forfeit. He then picked up his first victory by a 15-8 score over fifth-seeded Ryan Lineberry of Findlay.

The win put Hess in the quarterfinals, where he fell 13-3 to Kyle Norred of Campbellsville. He dropped his first match in the consolation bracket 8-6 to Tri-State's Tom Pompei.

Hess had made one previous appearance in the Little Giants' lineup, winning by forfeit.
