Jay County Commissioners
By By TRAVIS MINNEAR-
The Jay County Emergency Management Agency has been approved for an emergency management performance grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The amount of the award is $24,670.01, said Ralph Frazee, director of emergency management.
"It provides for up to half of our salaries," he said.
County Commissioner Milo Miller Jr. said outside help for paying salaries is a welcomed sight.
"Nothing wrong with that, if you can get someone else to pay for the salaries other than the taxpayers," he said.
Commissioners also pledged unanimous support Monday for the United Way's newest fundraising campaign to support health and social services.
The event kicks off Wednesday, said Rita Lutes, campaign co-chair for the United Way of Jay County. The organization's goal is to raise $225,000.
Also Monday:
•Commissioners and Jay County Assessor Anita Mills met to determine Sept. 7 as the date for officials to travel to Indianapolis to discuss procedures for the county's tax reassessment public hearings.
•Officials set Sept. 17 as the date for "chassis bids" for the county's new dump truck, to be delivered in 2008, Auditor Freda Corwin said.[[In-content Ad]]
