Jay grads compete at invite

Collegiate Check-up

A couple of former Patriot teammates competed Saturday at the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
Jordan McMillan, a 2011 Jay County High School graduate, picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes in individual events for the Ball State women’s track team. Amanda Johnson, JCHS class of 2009, contributed to a top-three relay effort for the host Wildcats.
McMillan was one of the top sprinters at the meet as she finished fourth out of 21 in the 100-meter dash in 12.79 seconds. She was also fourth in a field of 33 competitors in the 200 dash at 26.37.
Johnson competed in the 4x400 relay for IWU, teaming with Tracey Tiernon, Kyla Morgan and Anna Henry for a third-place finish. They completed the race just six tenths of a second behind the runner-up squad from Albion in 4 minutes, 8.65 seconds.
McMillan also helped the Cardinals to a third-place relay finish in the 4x100 event. She joined Judah Smith, Lindsay Wallace and Hannah Lange for a time of 49.65.

Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Lit up the Houston pitching staff Tuesday to lead the Baylor University baseball team to a 14-5 victory.
Ludy hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning and also added three singles as he finished 4-for-5.
He drove in four runs, scored twice and stole a base.
The senior catcher also had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs Friday in a 10-2 win over Kansas. He added an RBI Saturday and a hit and an RBI Sunday as the Bears (19-7) swept the three-game series from the Jayhawks.

Jana Beitler
South Adams – 2009
Had two of the eight hits for the Goshen College softball team Wednesday in a 7-2 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.
Beitler finished 2-for-3 at the plate for the Maple Leafs, who dropped to 7-15.

She had a hit and a run Tuesday as Goshen dropped a doubleheader to St. Francis, and scored a run in Saturday’s 13-12 win over Purdue North Central.

Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Helped the Goshen College women’s track team dominate the 5,000-meter run Saturday at the Dick Small Invitational hosted by Defiance College.
Beitler took third place in the event, finishing in 21 minutes, 33.98 seconds. Her Maple Leaf teammates Karla Folker and Jenica Corbett took first and fourth respectively.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Also competed at the Dick Small Invitational for the Bethel College men’s track team.
Heckard posted a 12th-place finish for the Pilots in the 5,000-meter run in 18 minutes, 16.41 seconds.

Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Hit a home run for the Ball State University baseball team Wednesday in its 14-3 loss to Indiana State.
Wellman, a junior catcher, smacked his solo home run to right field with one out in the eighth inning. He also had a hit and a run Tuesday as Cardinals (4-16) fell 14-5 to Dayton.

Karen Bollenbacher
South Adams – 2008
Was one of nine players to record a hit March 22 as the Huntington University softball team rolled to a 16-4 victory over Olivet.
Bollenbacher went 1-for-3 for the Foresters, who are 12-4. She also had a run and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
