Jays smash Indians (09/30/06)

FRHS football

DELPHOS, Ohio - An amazing individual performance didn't exactly get rave reviews from the Fort Recovery Indians.

The Indians, who were hoping for their second win overall and first in conference play this season, fell victim to an amazing night by St. John's quarterback Nick Johnson.

Johnson accounted for six first-half touchdowns - including four in the first quarter alone - as the host Blue Jays racked up a 43-point halftime lead before coasting to a 56-21 victory.

Johnson, the game's leading rusher with 133 yards on just eight attempts (16.6 per carry average), scored first-period touchdowns on runs of 23, 3 and 6 yards, and also tossed a first period TD pass to Jeff Ostendorf for 15 yards.

The Blue Jays' quarterback added scoring runs of 21 and 4 yards in the second period.

In addition to his rushing totals, Johnson completed 6-of-8 passes for 95 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The Indians, who drop to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in Midwest Athletic Conference play, simply had no answer for Johnson.

Fort Recovery's lone first half score came early in the second period on a 22-yard pass to Troy Metzger from Toby Metzger. The Indians added third period touchdowns from on a 6-yard run by Matt Tobe and a 1-yard run by Toby Metzger.

Toby Metzger completed 15-of-23 passes for 170 yards and the touchdown, but was also intercepted twice.

Greg Kahlig pulled down a team-best five passes for 53 yards for the Indians, while Troy Metzger had four for 47, Wes Kahlig one for 38 and Tobe three for 33.[[In-content Ad]]
