JC takes state academic title
LAFAYETTE - Jay County High School's fine arts team took first place Saturday in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl competition on the campus of Purdue University.
Members of the team included captain Lauren Haggenjos, Sarah Garringer, Stephanie Byrum and Amy Powell.
Jay County was one of eight schools competing for the Class 1 state championship.
The team answered correctly on 20 of 25 questions involving Norse Culture, the subject of study for 2008-09. The runner-up team finished with 19 correct answers.
The team received a banner that will hang in the high school, along with a plaque and a gold medal.
The fine arts team is coached by Liz Lawson, and Dolphus Stephens is academic team coordinator.
Other high schools competing for the class 1 title were Columbus East, Chesterton, Concord, Lawrence Central, New Castle, Lafayette Harrison and Shelbyville.[[In-content Ad]]
