JCC requests support (01/09/2009)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

As 2008 came to a close, many of us had several moments to look back on. In 2009, all of us enter into resolutions to enrich our lives with memories to last a lifetime.

With that said, the Jay Community Center provides cherished moments for the families of our community yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Our mission is to strengthen the health and social interaction of our community's families through sports, recreation, and fitness. Our stability has much to do with the commitment of our community's families taking value in the programs that we offer.

Further, the level of commitment from those with great financial generosity is another staple of our organization.

Many of you received our 2008 end of the year letter detailing the impact that we have had on the community in 2008 and our needs in 2009.

If you did not have the opportunity to respond prior to the end of the year, please know that our effort is continuing. In a time of great uncertainty, the challenge only broadens for all of us in maintaining our key necessities.

We believe the Jay Community Center and the service it offers is a vital part of Jay County.

This is why the Board of Directors, our staff, and the solid base of past donors continue to commit to the overall stability of our organization both financially and with tireless efforts year in and year out.

We are asking all of you to consider becoming partners of our organization.  If you are currently a partner, your feedback on the opportunities and services offered is valued and appreciated.  If you have never associated with JCC, we urge you to do so.

Come in and see our great staff of Jack Houck, Eric Butcher, Rev. David Wade, Carolyn Carducci, Laura Baldwin, and Jennifer McGraw or feel free to contact a board member at your convenience.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in either regard at 260-726-6477.

We appreciate your support, commitment, and partnership to ensure long-term stability for one of the necessities of Jay County, the Jay Community Center.

Derek Rodgers, on behalf of the Jay Community Center Board of Directors - Kyle Teeter, Janet Bantz, Keith Muhlenkamp, Rob Moser, Sam Racster, Emily Goodrich-Roberts, Shauna Runkle, Rod Ashman, Mike Pyles and Jeb Bubp

Appreciation?

To the editor:

Dear Mayor Hunt,

I want to thank you for the employer appreciation dinner you gave for our city workers. I do have a concern as to why you chose Richards Restaurant to cater the meal.

Did they provide the meal at half price or free?

I ask that because as a citizen of Dunkirk and someone who is concerned about our local businesses and the need to support them and give back to them, as they give to us.

It is my understanding Pak-a-Sak gives free coffee to our officers in uniform, Pizza King gives half off to officers in uniform, and Christie's Restaurant gives free food and drinks to officers whether in uniform or not - plus they have allowed the Dunkirk Police Department to use their facility the past two years for its Christmas party at no charge.

It seems to me that a mayor, especially you, would want to support our local businesses.

Pak-a-Sak could have provided sandwiches. Pizza King could have provided pizza, salads, and sandwiches and Christie's, desserts.

You could have given back to them financially a little of what they provide to our city employees. But more than money you would have been showing them appreciation and support for what they do all year long.

I do hope you paid for this dinner out of your pocket and not out of city funds, because as a citizen I do not want to pay, nor should I be expected to pay, for a meal that was not served by our local businesses.

Please provide proof to the citizens of Dunkirk that you did indeed pay for this dinner out of your own pocket. I really think you owe Pak-a-Sak, Pizza King, and Christie's Family Restaurant a red face and an apology.
