JCC thanks community for support
Letters to the editor
To the editor:
As one of the newer faces at Jay Community Center, I would like to extend my gratitude to the generous community we all call home.
I have lived in Jay County my entire life, outside of one year in Atlanta upon graduation from in Ball State, and never truly realized the depth of the generosity of the people in Jay County until I accepted the role as the director of development at JCC in the fall of 2013.
When I started my position, we were in the heart of our Annual Capital Campaign, and it became my job ensure that we reached our sustaining goal of $55,000. I am proud to say, that as of May 20, we are at nearly 92 percent of our campaign goal due to the generosity of our community.
As you may know, 20 percent of all donations go toward capital improvements and maintenance projects. For a few examples, we have installed a new hardwood floor in our main multi-purpose exercise room, mounted fans in our exercise rooms, replaced a failing water heater and repaired more hallway damages from the flood of 2011, in addition to many more improvements. As well as making capital improvements, we are pushing to be as fiscally responsible as possible while ensuring that our programming remains to be the best and most innovative in the area.
Over the past 18 months, it has been evident that the community center has seen many changes. However, the goals still remain the same.
We are collectively striving to make a positive difference in the lives’ of the youth, adults and seniors in the community with free and affordable activities and programming. The end of our fiscal year, on May 31, also means that our 2013-14 annual campaign comes to a close and our 2014-15 annual campaign will begin.
We truly appreciate the community’s past generous support, and we would like to ask everyone to please consider contributing to our annual campaign again in the future.
Sincerely,
Nathan Helm
Jay Community Center director of development
