Art teachers Jacquelin Analco and Taryn Koontz are hoping for the best.
“If 30 people come, we’ll be happy,” said Koontz.
The teachers have come together to put on the first school-wide art show, which will include each grade and a range of mediums, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the high school’s auxiliary gym. The free exhibit will display the work students have completed throughout the year.
“Every day we see these kids do amazing things and they’re really talented, and I don’t think people really know that,” said Koontz. “And so we wanted to do something that could get that out there and show people how talented they are.”
The school included some of its students’ works in the
Arts Place Regional Student Art Exhibit in April, but Analco and Koontz wanted to show more than just the 10 works allowed for the school. They wanted to give each grade and medium its own spotlight and reward those who have been invested in the program.
“We wanted to include a lot more students this year,” said Analco. “And we wanted to get a big show to promote the arts and just to show off our student work because we have really talented students here at Jay County.”
There will also be an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. to hand out cash prizes for best in show, the best in each medium and those that excelled in each grade.
While the teachers understand it’s the first year, they’re hopeful the show gets enough of a reception from the community to continue into the years to come.
“We’re hoping it’s something we can continue to do each year and get bigger and bigger and bigger and get better ideas on how to go about doing it,” said Koontz. “The more people that come and support the arts, the more maybe donations we’ll get or money that we’ll get and the better supplies we can have. I guess the more advocacy, the better.”[[In-content Ad]]
