JCHS grads win at invite

The Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational proved to be a banner event for Jay County High School graduates.
Amanda Johnson, a 2008 JCHS graduate, earned an individual win for the host Wildcats on Saturday while Brandon Reynard, JCHS class of 2009, helped the Indiana Wesleyan men’s track team to a relay victory.
Johnson finished ahead of a pair of teammates as she took first place in the women’s 800-meter run. She finished in 2 minutes, 23.76 seconds, more than a second ahead of IWU sophomore Kayla Ewert in the field of 22 runners.
Reynard joined fellow Warriors D’Quan Ruth, Jordan Foster and David Army in taking the top spot in the 4x200 relay. They were first by nearly two seconds in 1:31.32.
Indiana Tech also competed at Friday’s Grand Valley State University Big Meet, with Reyanrd placing 20th with a time of 49.69 in the 400 dash. He teamed with Austen Barnes, Ruth and Army to finish second in the 4x400 relay in 3:15.27.
Megan Taylor, a 2011 graduate of JCHS, also ran at the GVSU Big Meet for the Manchester College women’s track team. She finished 42nd in the mile run in 5:52.36.

Greg Kahlig
Ft. Recovery – 2010
Racked up a season-high point total Feb. 9 in the University of Findlay men’s basketball team’s 77-74 loss to Tiffin.
Kahlig shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range and 9-of-14 from the field on the way to his 27-point effort. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double to go along wit three assists and a steal.
The sophomore had 15 points, eight rebounds and one assist for the Oilers (17-6) Saturday in an 80-61 victory over Ohio Dominican.
Dexter Shreve
Jay County – 2009
Finished eighth in the heptathlon for the Kent State University men’s track team at Saturday’s SPIRE Division I Indoor Track Invitational.
Shreve scored 4,429 points for his eighth-place finish and took the top spot in a pair of heptathlon events. He won the 60-meter dash in 7.14 seconds and the long jump at 21 feet, 6¾ inches, and tied for second in the high jump at 6 feet, 4¾ inches.

Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Was one of four Huntington University men’s basketball players to score in double figures Tuesday in an 83-75 victory over Goshen.
Teeter went 4-of-4 at the foul line and hit a pair of three-pointers in his 10-point effort. He also had one rebound and one assist.
The sophomore had one point, one rebound and one assist Saturday as the Foresters (17-12) defeated Taylor 67-57.

Sam Heckard
South Adams – 2010
Competed for the Bethel College men’s track team at Saturday’s DePauw Indoor Invitational.
Heckard’s best effort came in the 1,000-meter run, posting a 12th-place time of three minutes, 5.1 seconds. He finished the mile run in 5:12.16 for a 35th-place finish.

Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Helped the Huntington University women’s basketball team to a 78-40 victory Wednesday over Goshen.
Speed totaled nine points on 4-of-6 shooting as the Foresters improved to 18-9. She added two assists, one steal and one rebound.
The sophomore finished with eight points, five assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal in Saturday’s 63-51 victory over Taylor.

Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Ran for the Ball State University women’s track team Saturday at the Hoosier Hills Invitational hosted by Indiana.
McMillan finished 15th out of 35 competitors in the 200-meter dash. She posted a time of 26.59 seconds.

Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery – 2009
Tallied six points Wednesday in the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team’s 64-46 victory over Wilmington.
Snyder also had three rebounds, one assist and one block for the Polar Bears (20-4) in the win. She finished with five points, four rebounds, two steals and two assists in a 72-68 loss Saturday to No. 8 Mount Union.[[In-content Ad]]
