JCHS library rewards readers

Editor's Mailbag

By To the editor:-

The Jay County High School Library celebrated National Library Week recently by awarding prizes to several students for passing accelerated reading tests. These students read books within the last month and completed a short reading check on the computer.

Any student that passed his or her AR test, or reading check, was eligible for the prizes. All students are eligible for a reading credit if they take and pass four AR tests throughout the school as well.

Since the high school library has materials at all reading levels, all students had the opportunity to pass the reading check. Over 250 students participated in the final competition.

Congratulations to the following students who received pizzas, sandwiches or gift cards: Scott Bruggeman, Sandy Adkins, Lindsey White, Corey Scott, Ashley Horn, Wade Sallee, Tonya Geesaman, Matt McGraw, Tom Smith, Lanae Caster, David Minnich, Trent Blevins, Kim Harrington, Laura Eldridge, Keshia Gerber, Tiffany Petty, Amber Yohner, Delphia Flenar, Krista Cumings, Jeff Mills, Sergio Woo, Kristin Sollenberger, Kerri Towell, Rebecca Shultz, Nathan Tomey, Chassidy Duke, Linsy Wilson, Jason Sheffer, Kaylie Taylor, Roger Boyd, Kindra Hensley, Amanda Murrell, Shyla Milligan, Earl Johns, Brittany Byrum, Kelsi Wellman, Miranda Tingley and Valerie Silvas.

Russell Imel received the grand prize of a portable Karaoke machine.

We’d also like to express our gratitude to the local Pizza Hut and Arby’s for donating prizes to award during this week. Their generosity enabled us to reward students for their hard work and encourage our students to read.
