John Jay: Thanks for C3

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
On September 19, the first goal of the 20/20 vision “raise awareness of the vitally important partnership all members of our community play in recognizing, encouraging, and promoting the positive effects of education for individual success and community prosperity,” took place at the John Jay Center.
The John Jay Center hosted its second C3 – College-Career-Connect event as a goal identified through the Jay County Education Success Coalition along with The Portland Foundation.
This event would not have been possible without the support of The Portland Foundation, Jay County High School, Jay County Hospital, Jay County REMC, Walmart and the John Jay Center staff and committee members along with the board of directors.

The goal of the event was to provide the Jay County High School senior class of 2013 an opportunity to connect with current college students sharing their experiences at college. The John Jay Center would like to thank Kaleb Hemmelgarn, Kayla Baldwin, Deidre Chenoweth, Drew Houck and Garrett Kreig. We also want to thank Joni Degler and Colton Prescott for their time via Skype from the Purdue campus.
A special thank you to our master of ceremony, Aaron Hoevel, and to Emily Roberts for providing alma mater t-shirts to the Jay County High school teachers.
The evening was filled with opportunities to gain information from the following colleges and we greatly appreciate their time; Amber’s Beauty School, Art Institutes, Ball State University, Huntington University, Indiana University East, Indiana Tech, International Business College,  Ivy Tech, Ivy Tech Culinary, Lincoln College of Technology, Manchester University, Indiana Wesleyan University,  University of Indianapolis, University of Northwestern Ohio, Unites States Army, Universal Technical Institute, Vincennes University, Purdue University- College of Technology, Western Governors University, Rhodes State College, Brown Mackie College, Taylor University, Earlham College, Wabash College and MedTech.
The John Jay Center would like to thank our summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude sponsors: First Merchants Bank, PaceSetter Bank, MainSource Bank, Raymond James, Edward Jones, First Bank of Berne, Old National Bank and Bollenbacher & Associates for sharing financial advice for college.  We would also like to thank our special sessions presenters for sharing their information: Doug Inman from The Portland Foundation; Kari Hemmelgarn and Gina Muhlenkamp, sharing life as a college student; 21st Century Scholarship and  Indiana Wesleyan University for sharing FAFSA information along with the wonderful snacks for the event.
Again we would like to thank everyone who attended the event and hope you will join us again next year on September 18, 2013.
Cindy Cash, executive director, John Jay Center
