Johnson 19th at NCCAA finals

Collegiate Check-up

Two local athletes competed in the National Christian College Athletic Association cross country championships Saturday, with one helping her squad to a runner-up finish.
Amanda Johnson, a 2008 graduate of Jay County High School, was the fourth runner NAIA No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan University women’s team as it finished second behind Malone.
Sam Heckard, South Adams class of 2010, also ran at the meet hosted by Cedarville University for the Bethel College men’s team.
Johnson placed 19th in a field of nearly 150 runners, finishing less than a second behind 18th-place Kendra Zaffuto of Roberts Wesleyan. She crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 23.37 seconds in the 5K race.
Heckard was the No. 3 runner for Bethel, which finished 12th in the men’s competition. He finished 7K race in 29 minutes, 34.67 seconds.

Greg Kahlig
Fort Recovery – 2010
Scored nine points in his collegiate debut Friday, helping the NCAA Division II No. 3 University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 90-68 victory over Wilberforce.
Kahlig played 21 minutes off the bench, going 4-of-8 from the field and hitting his only free-throw attempt. He also totaled four rebounds and one assist.
The freshman also had five points, four rebounds, three assists and one block Tuesday as the Oilers defeated Cedarville 94-75.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery – 2007

Helped the NCAA Division I No. 17 University of Dayton volleyball team to its 21st straight win to close the regular season.
Gaerke totaled six digs, and one ace Sunday as the Flyers (24-3) rolled to the three-game victory over St. Louis. She also had three digs and one assist Friday in Dayton’s win over Fordham.
The Flyers open Atlantic 10 tournament play Saturday in Cincinnati.

Nick Teeter
South Adams – 2010
Scored six points Friday as the Huntington University men’s basketball team destroyed Kuyper 100-45.
Teeter hit a pair of 3-pointers in 13 minutes off the bench and also had two rebounds and one assist. He also had three points, one rebound and one assist Wednesday for the Foresters (6-0) as they clobbered Ohio State – Newark 109-58.

Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Played 14 minutes off the bench for the Huntington University women’s basketball team Saturday in a 66-54 win over Siena Heights.
Speed finished with an offensive rebound and an assist in the victory of the Foresters, who are 4-0 heading into this weekend’s Huntington University Classic.[[In-content Ad]]
