Johnson a good candidate
Editor's Mailbag
By To the editor:-
Starting with the spring primary, and in some cases long before, whenever one candidate makes the news his/her opponent is almost always asked to comment. The practice provides good balanced reporting on the political campaign.
It is also considered to be just plain common courtesy for the voters.
In Indiana we have had one glaring exception to that rule. Whenever Senator Evan Bayh makes the news there is rarely even a mention that he is running for re-election, much less a mention of his Republican opponent Dr. Marvin Scott.
This week we learned that Evan "Hoosier Values" Bayh voted against the Marriage Amendment and Senator Lugar voted for it. The media has not given us a clue where Marvin Scott stands on this important issue. We only know that Bayh voted in support of same sex marriage.
What I do know is that in 2003 Senator Bayh voted against President Bush 45 percent and he has voted with Hillary Clinton in support of abortion, gun control, and gay marriage. Senate candidate Marvin Scott is an intelligent and articulate professor at Butler University and a long time NRA member, and a supporter of traditional marriage.
As an African-American he understands the needs of Indiana's minorities. As a solid conservative he will work to help President Bush instead of working against him as Bayh does.
Its time for the media in Indiana to wake up and start giving equal time to the Senate candidate who stands for "Real Hoosier Values."
