A Jay County High School graduate proved to be one of the best runners in the NCCAA.
Amanda Johnson, JCHS class of 2008, joined three Indiana Wesleyan University teammates Saturday to earn All-American honors at the National Christian College Athletic Association Track and Field Championships at Judson.
Johnson teamed with fellow Wildcats Christina Sandberg, Amanda Wolfe and Kayla Ewert to finish second in the 4x800-meter relay in 9 minutes, 31.17 seconds. The top three finishers in each event earned All-American honors.
The senior placed fifth in her lone individual event, posting a time of 2:18.53 in the 800 run. She also joined Allix Miller, Tracey Tiernon and Kyla Morgan for fifth in the 4x400 relay in 4:05.09.
Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Played for the Huntington University softball team as it ended its season Thursday with an 8-4 loss to Bethel in the Mid-Central Conference Tournament.
Speed started in left field and scored a run for the Foresters, who finished 29-18.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Clobbered two home runs as he powered the offense for the Ball State University baseball team Sunday in a 9-7 loss to Western Michigan.
Wellman, who got the start at first base, blasted a solo home run to left field to lead off the second inning and then added a two-run shot in his next at bat in the fourth. He finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.
The junior had a single and an RBI Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Valparaiso. He finished with two hits in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Western Michigan and went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs Friday in as the Cardinals (11-33) lost the series opener 10-5 to WMU.
Jordan McMillan
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Ball State University women’s track team Friday as it fell 121-66 Friday to host Western Michigan.
McMillan posted a team of 25.6 in the 200-meter dash. She was two tenths of a second behind teammate Janae Taylor.[[In-content Ad]]
