Johnson leads Jay Co. group at Little State (04/19/08)

Alyssa Johnson turned in a fifth-place finish, leading a group of four Jay County High School graduates who competed in the Indiana Intercollegiate Little State Championship.
Johnson, a 2006 JCHS graduate, was the top former Patriot at the April 11-12 meet hosted by IUPUI. Her No. 5 finish for the Taylor University women's track team came in a 34-runner field in the 1,500-meter run in 4-minutes, 58.25 seconds at the 19-team meet.
Ian Thomas, a Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior, was 13th in his only event. He finished the 10,000 run in 33:29.19.
Joe Vormohr, a sophomore at Hanover College, placed 16th as he competed in a pair of events. He was 16th at 126 feet, 7 inches in the discus and 22nd with a toss of 41 feet, 7¼ inches in the shot put.
Jill Roughia, a Huntington University junior, posted a time of 13:01.63 to place 17th in the 3,000 steeplechase.
Johnson's Trojans turned in the top team finish of the four, placing fourth behind Indiana Wesleyan, Indianapolis and Vincennes.
Josh Shatto
Jay County - 2006
Pitched the Ancilla College baseball team to victory Thursday in the first game of a double-header against Glen Oaks.
Shatto carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning before Jeff Harkensee broke it up with a double. He went on to earn the win as Ancilla rolled, 15-2.
Cory Locke
Jay County - 2006
Helped support Shatto's pitching effort, finishing 3-for-3 in the opener against Glen Oaks. One of Locke's three hits was a double.
Holly Stein
Fort Recovery - 2007
Posted a second-place finish for the Defiance College women's track team April 12 at the 19-team Division III Championships host by Ohio Wesleyan.
Stein was the runner-up in the discus behind Sharon Rymut of the host Bishops. He toss went 112 feet, 10 inches, a foot better than third-place finisher Brittany Luc of Capital.
The freshman was also seventh in the shot put at a distance of 36 feet 5½ inches.
Tyler Sprunger
South Adams - 2004
Tossed four scoreless innings holding Heidelberg down as the Bluffton University baseball team rallied from a 6-3 deficit for a 12-11 victory.
After starter Adrian Fritch allowed six runs in the third inning, Sprunger threw four scoreless and hitless frames as the Beavers reclaimed the lead. He struck out two batters and walked one to earn the victory.
Heath Williams
Jay County - 2004
Had a hit and a run for the Manchester College baseball team April 11 in a 9-8 loss to Anderson.
Williams also drove in a run against Anderson April 12 in a 3-2 victory for the Spartans.
Josh Selvey
Jay County - 2007
Picked up four hits in three games recently for the Tri-State University junior varsity baseball team.
Selvey went 2-for-3 and had a stolen base as the Thunder lost to Kalamazoo Valley. He also had a hit in each game as Tri-State lost both halves of a double-header to Adrian.[[In-content Ad]]
