Collegiate Check-up
Alyssa Johnson turned in the best finish of four local athletes competing in the Indiana Intercollegiate cross country meet Sept. 19 at Indiana University.
Johnson, a junior at Taylor University, twins Ian and Mitchell Thomas of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Jill Roughia from Huntington University, all of whom are Jay County High School graduates, competed at IU.
With a time of 19-minutes, 51 seconds in just her second race of the year, Johnson finished in 11th place to earn all-state honors. The 2006 JCHS graduate led the Trojans to a fourth-place team finish.
Ian Thomas (JCHS - 2005) had the best time for Rose-Hulman, placing 36th overall in 27:30 seconds. Mitchell Thomas placed 48th with a time of 28:05.
Roughia (JCHS - 2005) was the No. 3 runner for Huntington. She placed 117th overall, posting a time of 22:25.
Johnson also competed Sept. 13 as Taylor hosted the Ray Bullock Invitational. She was the runner-up to lead the Champion Trojans in 19:55.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery - 2007
Had four blocks Sept. 19 in the University of Dayton volleyball teams three-game win over Miami (Ohio).
Gaerke also finished with six kills and one dig in the match as her team hosted the Dayton Flyer Classic. She added seven kills, three blocks and two digs in the Flyers' victory Sept. 20 over Louisville.
The sophomore totaled nine kills, five blocks and four digs in Dayton's loss to Purdue.
Amanda Johnson

Finished 83rd for Indiana Wesleyan women's cross country team at the Sept. 20 UW-Parkside Midwest Collegiate Open.
Johnson recorded a time of 21:05 in the field of 222 runners. She was two seconds ahead of freshman teammate Anne Lehman.
Megan Adams
Jay County - 2008
Earned her first collegiate win Tuesday as the Huntington University women's cross country team topped Defiance 9-0.
Adams played at No. 5 singles and recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
