Collegiate Check-up

A Jay County graduate recently secured a spot in a national meet.
With her victory Saturday in the 800-meter run, 2008 JCHS graduate Amanda Johnson of the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the national meet on her home track on Feb. 19.
Johnson led a Wildcat domination of the 800 run — she finished ninth in the state in her senior season at Jay County — as her team hosted the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. She fought off senior teammate Cassidy Wagner for the win by about six tenths of a second in 2 minutes, 26.22 seconds, and IWU freshman Kayla Ewert finished third.
The junior also contributed to a relay victory, joining Alyssa Foss, Kelsey Devereaux and Wager to take the distance medley in 12:56.82. She and teammates Angi Wolgemuth, Jordan Hofer and Kyla Morgan posted a time of 4:22.387 for fifth place in the 4x400 relay.

The senior also scored 20 points for IU East (18-8) Feb. 3 as it fell just short in a 92-90 loss to Asbury. He also had three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in the defeat.

She had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists Feb. 3 in a 75-71 win over Capital, and totaled 12 points, two assists and one rebound Saturday in the Polar Bears’ 71-49 triumph over Marietta.
