Johnson wins 1st race (02/07/2009)

The first race of Amanda Johnson's collegiate track and field career was a rousing success.
The 2008 Jay County High School graduate won her first race for the Indiana Wesleyan University women's track team Jan. 31 as the Wildcats hosted their 2009 Indoor Track and Field Invitational.
Johnson, who ran for the IWU women's cross country team this fall, dominated the 1,000-meter run. She finished in 3-minutes, 13.4 seconds, more than 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Brianna Adkins of Bethel.
The freshman earned a state medal with a ninth-place finish in the 800 run last season, and was a three-time state qualifier in the event.

Led the IU-East men's basketball team to victory Thursday with his seventh straight double-digit scoring game of the season.
Rigby shot 9-of-16 from the field for a game-high 20 points in the Red Wolves' 87-70 victory over Asbury College. He also had eight rebounds, two assists and a steals as IU-East improved to 19-7.
The sophomore also totaled 14 points, two rebounds and a steal Jan. 31 in a loss to IU-Southeast.
Dustin Overton

Had his best game of the season in the IU-East victory over Asbury.
Overton trailed only Rigby in the scoring column as he hit all but one of his six field goal attempts to reach double digits for the first time this season with 12 points. He added four rebounds and three assists.
The junior had one point and one rebound against IU-Southeast.

Both placed in the top half of the field in the 5,000-meter run for the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track team as it hosted the Engineer Invitational Jan. 31.
Ian Thomas fought off teammate Stephen Boedicker by 0.26 seconds to earn the runner-up spot in the event with a time of 15-minutes, 43.9 seconds. It was fourth-fastest time in the race in Rose-Hulman history.
Mitchell Thomas finished five spots behind his twin brother with a time of 16:02.83.
Holly Stein

Turned in a perfect free-throw shooting effort Wednesday in the Defiance College women's basketball team's loss to Northwestern (Ohio).
Stein made all of her 10 foul shots to lead a 23-of-25 Yellow Jackets effort and finish with 14 points. She also had five rebounds and two assists off the bench.
The sophomore had five points, two assists and a rebound Jan. 31 as Defiance defeated Manchester 74-52.[[In-content Ad]]
