Johnson wins again at Bethel

A week after winning the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational, Alyssa Johnson finished first again Saturday at the Bethel College Invitational at South Bend's St. Patrick's Park. Her sister Amanda's 10th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan squad picked up its second straight win.
Alyssa Johnson, a 2006 Jay County High School graduate, ran the best time of her career to easily win the race in 18 minutes, 34.15 seconds. She was more than 35 seconds ahead of runner-up up Kailee Whitaker of Indiana Wesleyan.
Amanda Johnson (Jay County - 2008) just missed breaking the 20-minute mark. She finished 28th in the 77-runner field in 20:08.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery - 2007
Helped the University of Dayton women's volleyball team stay unbeaten in the Atlanta 10 with 11 digs Sunday in a 25-16, 19-25, 25-16, 25-15 win over Rhode Island.
Gaerke also had seven kills and two blocks as the Flyers improved to 16-2 on the year. She totaled 10 kills, seven digs and one block Saturday in Dayton's victory over Fordham.
Maddie Moore
South Adams - 2009
Had an assist Oct. 7 to help the Bluffton University women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Rochester.
Moore made the pass to Katie Spain for the Beavers' fourth goal at the 70:28 mark. She also had two shots, including one on goal, in the win.
The freshman added two shots on goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to Hanover and one in Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Defiance.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2006
Started at center for the Hanover College football team Saturday in a 41-38 loss to Rose-Hulman.
The Panthers picked up 175 rushing yards and 287 passing yards behind Vormohr's blocking.
Frank Thien
Fort Recovery - 2009
Played on special teams Saturday in the Ohio Northern football team's 38-7 victory over Heidelberg.
