Johnsons run in Wisconsin (10/18/2008)
Collegiate Check-up
For the second straight week, the Johnson sisters were on the same course.
Alyssa Johnson, a Taylor University junior, and Amanda Johnson, an Indiana Wesleyan freshman, competed for their respective cross country teams Oct. 11 at the UW-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational. They also ran against each other Oct. 4 at Indiana Wesleyan.
With a time of 19-minutes, 18 seconds, Alyssa led the pair of Jay County High School graduates in 20th place. Taylor finished in 12th place.
Amanda, whose Wildcats finished third in a 31-team field, was 107th. She posted a time of 20:40.
The Johnsons will run together again Oct. 25 at the NAIA Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2006
Started at right guard for the Hanover College football team in its 44-33 loss Oct. 11 to Rose-Hulman.
Vormohr keyed the blocking for quarterback Nick Sharp, who threw for 404 yards and was sacked just once.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery - 2007
Finished second on the team with 14 kills Oct. 11 in the University of Dayton volleyball team's 25-12, 25-8, 25-8 destruction of LaSalle.
Gaerke had an outstanding .765 attack percentage with just one error in 17 attempts. She also had four digs and a block.
The sophomore also had seven kills, three digs, one block and one ace Oct. 10 in a four-game victory for the Flyers over Temple.[[In-content Ad]]
