JRDS looking for building funds
Letters to the Editor
To the Editor:
We write to you as co-chairs of the JRDS Building Brighter Futures Campaign. JRDS (Jay –Randolph Developmental Services) is dedicated to providing quality services which empower persons with special needs to pursue their individual goals. In December 2010, JRDS received a wonderful $440,000 grant from OCRA. This money is intended to expand and update our Jay County facility for the use of our clients. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring even better care and facilities for our developmentally challenged clientele. But there is one catch. We need to raise $50,000 in matching funds.
We began our fundraising campaign in May. Compared to the $440,000 grant, $50,000 did not seem like much. But there are many needs in Jay County at this time and to date we have received pledges and gifts totaling only $24,890. Now the contractor bids have shown that we will need an additional $25,000 to complete just the minimum build. We have asked many of you directly for funds through our mailings, but several have not responded. In addition, there were few responses to our ad in The Commercial Review. We are hoping that you have just been busy and not had the time to respond.
If you, like us, feel that those with developmental challenges deserve to have the opportunity to live full and successful lives, we hope you would be willing to help make that happen. If you need more information about the build and how it will help our clients and staff, please feel free to contact us at our website www.jrds.org, or call (260) 726-7931. Teresa Bowen at extension 236 is in charge of donations and can help get you the information you need. We wish to thank you in advance for your gift to this campaign. We know we can count on our Jay County Community to help us out.
Sincerely,
Jim McCord
