FRHS boys basketball
FORT RECOVERY — Two 20-point efforts were enough to get the Indians a win Friday.
Senior Wade Gelhaus and junior Elijah Kahlig both dropped 20 points as they fueled the Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team to a 48-37 victory over Jefferson.
Gelhaus shouldered the offense for Fort Recovery throughout the first three quarters, putting in 18 of his points to help the Indians (3-0) to a 28-23 lead going into the final period.
Then it was Kahlig’s time to shine.
He was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line for 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Indians were able to stay ahead of the Wildcats and secure the win.
Jefferson jumped out to a 5-0 lead early and was up 11-5 after the first quarter. But Gelhaus poured in 12 points in the second as the Indians claimed a 22-19 halftime advantage.
The Wildcats closed to within one point in the third quarter before Fort Recovery went on a 6-0 run. The Indians never let Jefferson within four points the rest of the way.
While Gelhaus and Kahlig were a combined 14-of-30 shooting, the rest of the squad struggled from the field. The remaining seven players shot a combined 4-for-17. Ben Dilworth finished with six points, and Mason Evers had two.
Gelhaus finished with a double-double effort, snagging 13 rebounds. Kahlig followed with four boards, and Dilworth dished out three assists.
Jefferson’s Ross Thomson and Trey Smith both finished with 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Wildcats.
