FRMS basketball

Led by Greg Kahlig, Fort Recovery’s junior high basketball teams put together a solid day of tournament action Saturday.

Kahlig scored 36 points to lead the Fort Recovery eighth grade boys to a 63-61 double-overtime win over the New Bremen Cardinals in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament. The seventh and eighth grade girls teams advanced in the MAC tournaments with wins of 43-27 and 33-23 over Coldwater respectively.

The lone loss of the day came as the seventh grade boys squad lost 34-12 to Coldwater at the Celina McKirnan Classic.

The eighth grade Indians trailed by seven at the half, but reclaimed the lead 40-39 heading into the fourth. New Bremen forced overtime, but the Cardinals could not overcome Kahlig’s six 3-pointers.

Josh Wendel added 12 points for Fort Recovery, and Cody Fiely scored seven.

The Tribe eighth grade girls allowed just five points in the opening quarter and four in the fourth as they stayed in control throughout. Nicole Pottkotter posted 16 points, Chelsey Leuthold had eight and Emily May scored seven.

Fort Recovery’s seventh graders pushed out to a 27-10 lead after three quarters en route to their win. Holly Brunswick scored 13 points, and Kendra Brunswick and Shelby Brunswick each had five.

John Homan and Nate Bihn had four points apiece in the loss for the Indian seventh grade boys.[[In-content Ad]]
