Kahlig named player of the year

Five times during the course of the year Greg Kahlig was named conference player of the week. Now he has an award that covers the whole season.
Kahlig, a 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate, was honored Monday as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
The senior, who is leading the GLIAC in scoring at 23.9 points per game, also tallied 15 points for the University of Findlay Oilers (21-5) in their 86-67 opening-round win Wednesday over Hillsdale in the conference tournament. He hit three 3-pointers and also had four rebounds, two steals and an assist in the win.
Kahlig had two 40-point games this season, and in GLIAC play he scored 537 points, the second most in conference history. He was a first-team all-conference selection last season and ranks seventh all-time at Findlay with 1,777 points.
He ranks sixth in NCAA Division II in scoring while also averaging four rebounds and three assists per game.
Kahlig is the top scorer in FRHS history and was a two-time Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the Indians. He was also the Northwest District Player of the Year and the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Division IV Player of the Year during his senior season.
Erika Waugh
SAHS – 2011
Was named to the All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association team for the third straight season.
Waugh broke the Calvin College record with a time of 2 minutes, 3.49 seconds, to win the 200-yard backstroke at the MIAA Championships. She was the runner-up in the 100 backstroke, and contributed to titles in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.

Will play in the NAIA Division II men’s basketball national tournament for the University of St. Francis.
Despite being upset in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament, the 14th-ranked Cougars (21-10) were selected for an at-large bid in the national tournament. They will open play March 13 against Robert Morris (Ill.) (23-9) in Point Lookout, Mo.

Will play for the Huntington University women’s basketball team in the NAIA Division II national tournament.
The No. 19 Foresters (23-8) were knocked out of the Crossroads League Tournament earlier than they had hoped with a 71-60 semifinal loss to Indiana Wesleyan. But they learned Tuesday they earned an at-large bid to the national tournament and will play Menlo (Calif.) (25-5) in the opening round March 13 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Speed shot 8-of-9 from the free-throw line and scored 10 points for Huntington in the loss to IWU. She also had six rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Hannah Moore
SAHS – 2012
Helped the Huntington University women’s track team to a runner-up finish Saturday at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational hosted by Anderson.
Moore finished as the runner-up in the mile run. She had a time of 5 minutes, 24.69 seconds.
Kylie Kahlig
FRHS – 2012
Started for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team Feb. 27 as it ended its season with an 80-39 loss to Siena Heights in the quarterfinal round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament.
Kahlig grabbed three rebounds and scored two points for the Racers (17-14). She also had two assists and a steal.
Wade Gelhaus

Played for the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team Wednesday as it closed its season with a 78-66 loss to Ferris State.
Gelhaus made his only field-goal attempt for two points and also had three rebounds and an assist. He finished with three rebounds and two assists for the Cardinals (9-17) in their 86-64 loss Feb. 27 to Northwood.[[In-content Ad]]
