Kahlig nears 1,000 points (02/11/2009)
FRHS boys basketball
FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team rolled over the Ansonia Tigers Tuesday. And Greg Kahlig pulled within a couple of hoops of a career milestone.
The junior racked up 20 points as the Indians trounced Ansonia 67-36, bringing him within seven of reaching 1,000 points for his career.
Kahlig, who also had a game-high of nine rebounds, is likely to pass the mark Friday when FRHS hosts Marion Local, and he would be the first junior in school history to do so. Barring injury, he has an excellent chance at becoming the school's all-time scoring leader.
Ken Heiby, class of 1969, holds the current mark of 1,418 points. Kevin Dilworth (1,363 points) is the only other player in school history to have more than 1,200.
Senior Frank Thien added 14 points, four steals and three assists Tuesday for the Indians, who led by 10 after the first quarter and 39-18 at halftime. They outscored Ansonia 17-7 in the third quarter as they improved to 11-5.
Toby Metzger added nine points, and Brady Kahlig scored seven.

Fort Recovery managed just two points in the second quarter, but dominated the second half for a 33-30 victory over the Tigers.
Shane Brunswick had 13 points and five blocks to lead the Indians, who had a 25-12 advantage in the second half. Michael Gaerke had 12 points, and Ryan Schoen added six.[[In-content Ad]]
