FRHS boys basketball
NEW MADISON, Ohio - The Indians didn't waste any time asserting themselves Saturday night.
Fort Recovery High School's boys basketball team opened its game with a 9-0 run, and played a strong fourth quarter for a 66-50 victory over the host Tri-Village Patriots.
Clint Tobe, a senior, got the Indians off and running with a 3-pointer on their first possession. Brent Faller added two hoops and Bobby Rammel had one during the opening nine-point run, and Fort Recovery was up by 11 after the opening period.
Tri-Village got as close as seven points on a couple of occasions, but a week after seeing a double-digit lead slip away against Wapakoneta the Indians finished strong. FRHS closed the game with another 9-0 run to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Sophomore Greg Kahlig powered the Indians with a double-double, racking up 22 points and 12 rebounds. He shot 50 percent from the field - Fort Recovery hit for 56 percent in the first half - and was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Tobe, Rammel and Faller all joined him in double figures with 15, 11 and 10 points respectively. Toby Metzger had nine boards and seven assists, Tobe dished out four assists and Kahlig added two steals and a block.
Tyler Greer and Ryan Buck had 12 points and 10 rebounds apiece to power the Patriots. Drew Moore added 11 points.
Junior varsity
Both squads struggled from the field, but Fort Recovery went to the line 14 more times than the Patriots in a 36-27 victory.
The Indians shot just 36 percent from the game and struggled at the line as well, but still outscored Heritage 8-1 on free throws. The Patriots had even worse difficulty shooting the ball, making just 11-of-41 (27 percent).
Josh Wendel powered Fort Recovery with 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Craig Tobe added seven points and eight boards.
Brett Forman totaled 14 points, five rebounds and four steals to lead Tri-Village. Matt Miller and Zack Mogel each chipped in four points.[[In-content Ad]]
