Kahlig scores career-high 30

The Storm could barely keep up with Greg Kahlig in the first half.
The 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate poured in 22 first-half points Saturday on the way to scoring a career-high 30 as the University of Findlay men’s basketball team defeated Lake Erie 83-68.
Kahlig shot 8-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, and made all of his nine free-throw attempts for the Oilers (11-5), who were up 45-28 at halftime. In addition to surpassing the career scoring high of 28 points he set against Tiffin during his freshman season, he also had five rebounds, one block and one assist.
The junior also had 21 points in a 61-60 loss to Ashland on Jan. 17. He added five rebounds, one block and one assist.
Kahlig leads Findlay in scoring at 15.8 points per game while shooting 43 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent from the line. He also averages 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery - 2009
Posted her third straight 20-point game Wednesday, leading the NCAA Division III No. 8 Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team to a 66-55 victory over Baldwin Wallace.
Snyder shot 10-of-19 from the field for the Polar Bears (16-1, 10- Ohio Athletic Conference) and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. She added three steals, two blocks and one assist.
The senior had 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists as ONU defeated John Carroll 72-61 on Saturday.
Erika Waugh
South Adams – 2011
Won the 100-yard backstroke Friday to help lead the Calvin College women’s swim team past Kalamazoo and Saint Mary’s.
Waugh fought off teammate Alexi Scott for the victory, taking the top spot in the backstroke by less than two tenths of a second in 1 minute, 3.42 seconds. She joined Leah Meyer, Shelby Cloyd and Jay County High School graduate Mary Hudson to place fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.67.
The sophomore recorded third-place finishes in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:10.44 and the 200 backstroke in 2:15.11 in Saturday’s 164-136 victory over Hope. She was sixth in the 100 backstroke, and joined Hudson, Scott and Cloyd for fourth in the 200 medley relay.
Mary Hudson
Jay County - 2012
Added a top-three individual finish for the Calvin women’s swim team in the wins over Saint Mary’s and Kalamazoo.
In addition to teaming with Waugh in the medley relay, Hudson also placed third in 1:11.91 in the 100-yard breaststroke. She added an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.
The freshman was fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.17 in Saturday’s win over Hope. She added a time of 2:40.59 for fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery – 2011
Led the Edison Community College women’s basketball team to victory Saturday, 85-62 over Cuyahoga County.
Brunswick shot 8-of-11 from the field and hit all of her four 3-point attempts as she totaled 27 points. She also had four steals, three rebounds and two assists for the Chargers (10-3).
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Turned in a runner-up individual finish and contributed to a winning relay Monday in the Ball State University women’s swim team’s 173-127 victory over Illinois State.
Vormohr’s top individual effort came in the 100-yard breaststroke as she finished second to teammate Sumaiyah Ahmad with a time of 1 minute, 7.59 seconds. She joined Carlena Magley, Jillian Bischoff and Emily Wisolek for a winning time of 1:38.08 in the 200 freestyle relay, and was also fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
The senior also placed fifth in 1:07.76 in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday in the Cardinals’ 158-142 loss to Eastern Michigan.
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Competed for the Ball State University men’s swim team, which lost 159-130 Saturday to Eastern Michigan.
Fennig turned in a time of 1 minute, 49.09 seconds, for fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle. He teamed with Shane Brown, Austin Goodman and Ethan Hall to finish second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.02.
Pazia Speed
Jay County – 2010
Finished with 17 points Wednesday in the Huntington University women’s basketball team’s 64-60 loss to Marian.
Speed shot 7-of-13 from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Foresters, who slipped to 13-9. She also had one steal.
The junior finished with eight points, two rebounds and an assist Saturday as HU lost 65-42 to NAIA Division II No. 6 St. Francis.
Eme Miller
Jay County – 2012
Finished fifth in a pair of events Saturday in the Defiance College women’s swim team’s losses to Wooster and Malone.
Miller placed fifth in both the 200-yard backstroke and 1,650 freestyle with times of 2 minutes, 31.82 seconds, and 20:29.15 respectively. She was also sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:29.83.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Helped the Indiana Tech men’s track team to a second-place finish Saturday at the nine-team Tiffin University Carnival.
Reynard’s top finish came in the 400-meter dash as he placed seventh out of 26 competitors in 51.11 seconds. He was also 16th in the 200 dash in 23.26.
Kylie Kahlig

Played for the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday in its 87-68 loss to Davenport.
Kahlig scored five points and grabbed one rebound for the Racers, who slipped to 8-15. She had a team-high seven rebounds, five points, two blocks and an assist in Saturday’s 66-59 loss to Siena Heights.
Megan Taylor
Jay County – 2011
Contributed to an 11th-place finish for the Manchester College women’s track team on Friday at the six-team Rose-Hulman Friday Night Invite.
Taylor turned in a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. She was 11 seconds behind sixth-place finisher Kate Bugelholl of Franklin with a time of 12 minutes, 30.62 seconds.
Dexter Shreve

Competed for the Kent State University men’s track team in Friday’s 80-71 loss to Akron.
Shreve’s top individual finish came in the 60-meter dash as he posted a time of 7.16 seconds for fifth place. He was sixth in the long jump at 22 feet, ¾ inches, and teamed with Kyle Tywon, Tyler Jones and Dylan Shirley for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3 minutes, 25.81 seconds.

Played for the NAIA Division II No. 12 Bethel College women’s basketball team in Saturday’s 69-59 victory over Spring Arbor.
Hunt grabbed a pair of rebounds in just three minutes of play for the Pilots (18-4). She also had one steal.
The sophomore finished with one rebound for Bethel as it defeated Grace on Jan. 10.
Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Took part in one event for the Huntington University women’s track team Saturday at the Gene Edmonds Cup hosted by Purdue.
Moore finished in 13th place for the Foresters in the 3,000-meter run. She posted a time of 11 minutes, 28.93 seconds.

Jay County – 2011
Ran for the Ball State University women’s track team at Saturday’s Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana.
McMillan’s best finish came in the 200-meter dash as she took 26th place in 27.15 seconds. She was also 40th with a time of 8.22 in the 60 dash.

Started Wednesday for the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team, which suffered a 64-54 loss to Davenport.
Pottkotter grabbed one rebound in 18 minutes of play for the Racers (11-10). He also had one steal.
Sam Heckard

Competed for the Bethel College men’s track team at Saturday’s Robert H. Johnson Little Giant Invitational hosted by Wabash.
Heckard turned in a 32nd-place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 15.84 seconds. He was also 44th in the mile in 5:46.42.
The junior placed 38th in the mile with a time of 5:33.98 Jan. 12 at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State. Heckard was 52nd in the 3,000-meter run in 11:38.7.

Dropped all four of his matches Jan. 11 and 12 for the Trine University wrestling team, which defeated Gettysburg 32-9 and fell to Thiel 25-19, The College of New Jersey 26-9 and Waynesburg 21-19.
