Kahlig sets school, league records

Greg Kahlig scored at least 39 points in three of the final four games of the regular season. As it turned out, that was just the tip of the oil well.
The 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate blew those numbers away Saturday in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, amassing a league-record 55 points to lead the University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 104-74 victory over Walsh.
The NCAA Division II No. 21 Oilers (24-5) went on to win their third straight tournament title. They will open play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament at 9:30 p.m. Saturday against No. 25 Lake Superior State in Springfield, Mo.
Kahlig caught fire against Walsh, hitting eight 3-pointers and scoring 26 points in the opening 20 minutes. He set a school record with 10 3-pointers for the game while shooting 19-of-28 from the field and hitting all of his seven free-throw attempts.
He added two assists and a steal.
Kahlig went on to record team highs of 22 points and eight rebounds Sunday as Findlay topped Michigan Tech 69-63 in the GLIAC tournament title game. He also had four assists and a steal.
He set GLIAC Tournament records for points (93) and field goals made (31), and tied the record for 3-pointers with 15.
With his tournament scoring, the senior jumped to fourth on Findlay’s all-time list with 1,855 career points. He ranks fourth in the nation in scoring at 24.6 points per game.
Neal Fennig

Competed for the Ball State University men’s swim team, which finished sixth out of seven squads Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Fennig’s top individual effort came in the 200-yard freestyle as he placed 19th in 1 minute, 43.3 seconds. He was also 23rd in the 500 freestyle and 27th in the 100 freestyle.
The junior was involved in a pair of sixth-place relay efforts, teaming with Michael Oaks, Tanner Barton and Drew Tharp for a time of 6:55.39 in the 800 freestyle event and joining Cole Smith, Austin Green and Oaks to finish the 400 freestyle in 3:05.52.

Started for the No. 14 University of Saint Francis men’s basketball team in its loss to No. 19 Robert Morris (Ill.) in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo.
Comer went 3-of-9 from the field and scored nine points in the 69-66 overtime loss to the Eagles.
The freshman also added a trio of rebounds, assists and steals for the Cougars (21-11).

Scored a game-high 24 points for the No. 19 Huntington University women’s basketball team in its victory over No. 14 Menlo (Calif.) in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
The senior shot more than 50 percent from the field (9-of-17) and sank her only shot from long range. She also added three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The Foresters (24-8) will play fourth-ranked Northwestern University (Iowa) in the second round of the tournament.[[In-content Ad]]
