Kahlig, Snyder are top in MAC (03/05/2009)

CELINA, Ohio - The best players in the MAC reside in Fort Recovery.
Indian players brought home the top awards when the Midwest Athletic Conference all-league honors were announced this week with Greg Kahlig named boys player of the year and Joanna Snyder sharing the girls honor. Snyder tied for the award with Zefiryn Bryan of St. John's.
Five other FRHS players earned second-team or honorable mention awards.
Kahlig, who surpassed the 1,000-point mark this year, picked up the MAC Player of the Year Award in just his junior season. He averages 23.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, both team highs.
He also leads Fort Recovery with an 81-percent mark from the foul line and 21 blocks. He has 50 assists this season and 23 steals.
Snyder, a senior, picked up the the girls MAC Player of the Year Award as she leads the Indians in points (12.9), rebounds (5.6) and assists (60). She also has 35 steals.
She and Bryan will go head-to-head tonight as Fort Recovery and No. 5 St. John's meet in the Division IV district semifinal game at Van Wert at 6:15 p.m.
The Blue Jays knocked off the Tribe 62-55 when they met Feb. 19.
Kahlig and Snyder were the only first-team selections for Fort Recovery. Senior Kinsey Wenning and junior Nicole Pottkotter made the girls second team. Honorable mention when to Frank Thien on the boys team and Chelsea Leuthold and Kelsey Wuebker on the girls team.
Pottkotter averages 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds for the FRHS girls team. She also has 31 assists this season and a team-high 22 3-pointers.
Wenning has averages of 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds to go along with 12 blocks.
Thien leads the Indian boys with 118 assists this season. He averages 6.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds.
Chelsea Leuthold is the No. 2 scorer for the girls team in both points and rebounds with 8.2 and 4.1 per game respectively. Wuebker averages 3.4 points and 3.1 rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
