Kahlig sparks win over Huskies

The Oilers lost one game to a team from Michigan. Greg Kahlig wouldn’t let it happen again.
With the NCAA Division II No. 15 University of Findlay men’s basketball team coming off of its only loss of the season, the 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate poured in 32 points Dec. 12 to lead the way to an 86-73 victory over Michigan Tech.
Kahlig was on fire from long range in the game as he hit five of his seven 3-point attempts and finished 11-of-16 (69 percent) from the field overall. He also grabbed a pair of rebounds for the Oilers (6-1).
The senior did most of his scoring Saturday from the free-throw line, making all of his eight foul shots to score 10 points in a 78-69 win over Northern Michigan. He was second on the squad with seven rebounds while adding three assists, one block and one steal.
Kahlig ranks 49th in Division II in scoring at 20.6 points per game. He is also averaging 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
Pazia Speed

Led a one-two punch for the Huntington University women’s basketball team Tuesday as it triumphed over IU Southeast 70-55.
Speed paced the Foresters (9-3) with 20 points while teammate Kelsey Hubble added 19. She also had a team-high six assists to go with three steals and three rebounds.
Wade Gelhaus

Made his first collegiate start Monday in the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team’s 69-55 victory over Ashland.
Gelhaus shot 7-of-9 from the field and scored 14 points for the Cardinals (5-3). He also had three rebounds.
The freshman was even from the field Wednesday, finishing 6-of-7 from the field for 12 points as SVSU defeated Lake Erie 79-73. He added three rebounds and two assists.
Kegan Comer
Jay County – 2013
Helped the University of St. Francis bounce back from a loss Saturday to beat Webber 71-67 on Monday.
Comer started and scored nine points as the Cougars improved to 11-4. He also had three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
The freshman had 12 points, and a rebound in Saturday’s 73-66 loss to Warner.
Kylie Kahlig

Was one of two University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball players to reach double figures Wednesday in a 65-54 loss to Rochester.
Kahlig shot 50 percent from the field and paced the Racers (6-10) with 11 points. She added five rebounds and two assists.
She had eight points, three rebounds and two assists Saturday as UNOH fell 95-89 to Aquinas in double overtime, and totaled two points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist Monday in an 84-65 loss to Wilberforce.
Brock McFarland

Played for the Grace College men’s basketball team Dec. 12 in an 82-65 loss to Robert Morris.
McFarland played 27 minutes off the bench for the Lancers (6-6) and finished with seven points. He added four rebounds and one assist.
Scott Schwieterman

Started for Anderson University’s men’s basketball team Saturday in its 89-79 loss to Bluffton.
Schwieterman shot 50 percent from the field and finished with four points. He also had four rebounds and a pair of blocks for the Ravens (9-10).
Jason Pottkotter
Fort Recovery – 2012
Helped the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team to a 90-80 victory over Wilberforce on Monday.
Pottkotter hit a pair of free throws to finish with two points. He added three rebounds and an assist.
The sophomore also saw four minutes of action Saturday as the Racers (9-4) defeated Aquinas 78-76.

Competed Friday for the University of Findlay men’s swim team in a 205-68 loss to Ohio Northern.
Hull placed sixth in the 50-meter butterfly, the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. He also joined teammates Ian Kochheiser, Tyler Matthews and Nick Kaftan for fifth place in the 400 medley relay.[[In-content Ad]]
