Kahlig tosses one-hitter as Tribe splits (04/23/07)

BOTKINS, Ohio - Greg Kahlig tossed a one-hitter in the opener, but the Botkins Trojans knocked around an assortment of Tribe pitchers in game two.

The Fort Recovery baseball team had to settle for a split Saturday, defeating Botkins 9-1 in game one before dropping the second half of the double-header 13-7.

Kahlig, a freshman, was outstanding in the opener, striking out eight while giving up just a single hit. He did not walk a batter, and the only run against him was unearned.

The offense gave him a couple of three-run innings as catcher Scott Hein led the charge with three hits, including a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Toby Metzger added two hits and two runs, and Tony Diller and Frank Thien also each had two hits. Curt Heitkamp drove in two runs, and Bobby Rammel scored twice.

The offense came alive for the Trojans in the second game as they scored seven of their 13 runs in the third inning. Hein, one of four Indian pitchers, suffered the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in 12/3 innings.

Diller went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Fort Recovery, which move its record to 7-5. Heitkamp and Troy Metzger each had three hits, and Toby Metzger finished with two hits and two runs.

Junior varsity

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians got their first win of the year, taking game two of the double-header 17-1. Botkins won the opener 7-6.

Nate Keller led the offensive outburst for Fort Recovery (1-9) with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Brady Kahlig was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs.

Alex Gehle had two hits and two runs, and Tom Staugler added two runs and two RBIs. Also scoring two runs apiece were Jordan Hess and Travis Hart.

Hess also picked up the win, holding Botkins to one run on two hits and four walks. He struck out eight.

Hart suffered the defeat in the opener, although four of the seven runs against him were unearned. He gave up nine hits while striking out seven and walking three.

Kahlig had two hits, including a double, and two runs. Gehle and Staugler added two hits apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
