Kahlig triple key for Oilers
Collegiate Check-up
The University of Findlay men’s basketball team trailed by eight at halftime of its first tournament game. But the Oilers rallied in the second half with a Fort Recovery High School graduate giving them the lead for good.
Greg Kahlig, FRHS class of 2010, hit a 3-pointer at the 8:40 mark of the second half Wednesday, pushing Findlay to a 47-45 lead. The Oilers went on to win 62-55 over Ferris State in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference Tournament, with Kahlig hitting four free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the victory.
Kahlig finished with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the victory.
The senior had 27 points, five rebounds and three blocks as Findlay (20-7) won its regular-season finale 74-66 over Hillsdale on Saturday.
Brandon Reynard
Jay County – 2009
Was part of a fifth-place relay finish for the Indiana Tech men’s track team at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Reynard ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay for the Warriors, who posted a time of 7 minutes, 44.57 seconds. They edged Northwestern (Iowa) by 0.08 seconds for fifth place.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Powered the Ball State University baseball team’s offense Monday in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Morehead State.
Wellman broke open a tie game with a bases-loaded double down the left-field line in the eighth inning. He finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
He also had a single and a run as the Cardinals (5-6) won the second game 12-2. He added a single Wednesday in BSU’s 14-4 loss to sixth-ranked South Carolina.
Kendra Brunswick
Fort Recovery – 2011
Led the Edison Community College women’s basketball team in scoring Saturday as it closed the regular season with an 82-66 victory over Columbus State.
Brunswick hit three 3-pointers and shot 7-of-9 from the foul line to finish with 20 points. She added 11 rebounds and narrowly missed a triple-double as she also dished out nine assists.
Cori Vormohr
Jay County – 2009
Competed at the Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 28 through March 2 for the Ball State University women’s swim team.
Vormohr’s top individual finish in the meet hosted by the University of Buffalo came with a time of 1 minutes, 4.82 seconds, for 20th in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was also 24th in the 200 breaststroke and 26th in the 50 freestyle.
She teamed with Jillian Bischoff, Carlena Magley and Elaine Pitsas for eighth in the 200 freestyle relay.
Joanna Snyder
Fort Recovery – 2009
Was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Academic Team for the third straight year.
Snyder was one of five members of the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team to earn the honor. She had also been named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team earlier this season.
The senior’s career came to an end Saturday as the No. 3 Polar Bears lost 63-48 to No. 2 Hope in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. She finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
