Kahlig's 42 power Fort Recovery

FORT RECOVERY - Greg Kahlig and the Indians gave their new scoreboards a workout.
Kahlig made sure the new 22-foot by 5-foot behemoths worked Tuesday, turning in the fourth highest individual scoring effort in Fort Recovery High School history against the visiting Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers. Twenty-nine of his 42 points came in a 48-6 run as the Tribe rolled to an 88-36 victory.
Fort Recovery (5-0) trailed 9-8 midway through the first quarter, but then limited the Tigers to just one field goal the remainder of the first half. Meanwhile, Kahlig and the Indians went on a scoring barrage.
The Tribe was up by 12 by the end of the first quarter, 33 at halftime and pushed to a 56-15 advantage less than three minutes into the third quarter. Kahlig had three 3-pointers and two dunks during the run as FRHS shot 66 percent (19-of-29) in the first half and 60 percent for the game.
In just 24 minutes, Kahlig shot 16-of-23 and made all seven of his free throws to single-handedly outscore Waynesfield-Goshen. His total matched the 42 points totaled by Tom Bryan against Ansonia in 1966.
Bryan also owns the top scoring game in FRHS history with 55 points, and had a 50-point game as well. Tyler Niekamp totaled 52 points against Waynesfield-Goshen in the 2003 sectional tournament.
Kahlig also had game highs of 14 rebounds, six assists, six steals and four blocks.
Craig Tobe contributed 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and Ryan Schoen hit five of his seven field-goal tries for 13 points. Wade Gelhaus had eight rebounds and four assists.
Taylor Miller led the Tigers with 11 points and seven rebounds. Jerry Weeks added seven points.
Junior varsity

Elliot Post recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Indians, who were up 28-13 at the half. Jared Kahlig added 13 points, six steals and four assists, and Trent Kaiser had 10 points and five rebounds.
