Kaup joins council (8/3/04)
Business owner named to Fort board
FORT RECOVERY — A longtime village resident and business owner here was appointed as the new council member Monday.
Dave Kaup, owner of B&D Contracting, was appointed by the council to replace former Councilman Doug Westgerdes, who resigned from his seat on Aug. 1 because he moved out of town.
Council members interviewed two candidates in executive session prior to the meeting.
Kaup, who has lived in the village for 16 years, also was sworn in Monday by village attorney Dave Barnes.
Also Monday, Fort Recovery village administrator Randy Diller reported that about 400 cracked and damaged bricks were replaced Thursday on Wayne Street between Boundary and Butler streets.
Diller said the street was put in approximately 12 years ago, and the village street department has never completely inspected the entire bricked block.
In other business, council members approved an ordinance allowing the Ohio Department of Transportation to pave just over a one-mile section of Ohio 49 that runs in the village corporation limits.
Diller said the project is planned to be completed by 2010.
Also Monday, Diller reported:
•The village is selling numerous items by taking sealed bids. Items for sale include a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria formerly used by the Fort Recovery Police Department, a 1989 Dodge Dakota, bicycles, snowboards, scooters, Christmas decorations, a floor sweeper and an electric typewriter.
Sealed bids should be delivered to the village hall by noon on Friday, Aug. 20, Diller said. The bids will be opened by town employees, and the highest bidder will be contacted by village officials.
•The $45,000 project to replace water and sanitary sewer lines on Gwendolyn and West Center streets is set to begin in a few weeks.
•Construction of sidewalks on Milligan and Harrison streets is scheduled to start the week of Aug. 23.
After the sidewalks are constructed, village employees will install street lights in these areas.
This project will cost an estimated $27,813.[[In-content Ad]]
