Kaup on verge of 2,000 digs (10/13/07)

Collegiate Check-up

The next milestone for Joscie Kaup is within reach.

Already the holder of every defensive record for the Syracuse University volleyball team, Kaup, a 2004 Fort Recovery High School graduate, can now only hit personal milestones. She was set to push past the double-century mark in digs Friday night as she entered the match against DePaul with 1,995 digs for her career.

The senior, who was named Syracuse's Scholar-Athlete of the Week Monday, had 20 digs in the most recent match for the Orange, a three-game win Sunday over Georgetown. She also had a pair of assists.

Kaup added 12 digs, two assists and an ace in a loss Oct. 5 to South Florida.

She remains atop the Big East in digs with a total of 339, and second in the conference with 4.77 per game. She also has 31 assists, 25 aces and two kills on the season.

Kaup has been on the Athletic Directors Honor Roll every semester at Syracuse, and has been a Big East Academic All-Star in each of her first three seasons.
