Kaup's Orange on seven-match win streak (10/29/05)

Collegiate check-up

With her second trip back to Ohio just two weeks away, Joscie Kaup and her Syracuse University volleyball team are on a roll.

Kaup, a sophomore and 2004 graduate of Fort Recovery, racked up 25 digs against the Connecticut Huskies Oct. 22 as the Orange have run off seven straight victories. She also had two assists and two aces as Syracuse topped its Big East rival 30-23, 30-23, 24-30, 30-20.

The team, which also visited Kent earlier this season, will place at Cincinnati Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Kaup had 15 digs, one kill, one ace and one assist in another Big East win over St. John’s Sunday. She added 13 digs and three assists in a three-game win Oct. 21 over Central Connecticut.

The Orange has not lost since falling in three games Oct. 8 at Pittsburgh. They are third in the Big East at 7-2 and have a 19-7 record overall.

Kaup ranks eighth in the 16-team conference in digs with 3.89 per game for a season total of 366.

Kyle Weaver

The Wabash College junior and 2003 Jay County graduate posted a third-place finish in helping lead the Little Giant swim team to a third-place finish at the nine-team North Coast Athletic Conference relays Oct. 22.

Weaver participated in six different events for Wabash, scoring his best finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. He joined Jordan Blackwell, Jordan Extine and Blaine Cooper-Surma to finish behind Kenyon and Dennison in 1-minute, 30.4 seconds.

He also joined Blackwell, Michael Hewitt and Brent Graham to take fifth place in the 400 individual medley relay in 3:57.11. His teams also took seventh place in the 200 medley relay, eighth in the 200 butterfly relay, 10th in the 200 backstroke relay and 15th in the 500 freestyle relay.

Andrew Wells

A 2002 Jay County graduate, he also swam for Wabash College at the North Coast Athletic Conference relays.

Wells teamed with Matt Vest, Nathan Rutz and Aaron Spolarich to finish 26th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1-minutes, 46.37 seconds.

Sarah Hough

The Ancilla College sophomore and 2004 Jay County graduate came up with 23 digs as the Ancilla College volleyball team closed the season with a 28-30, 30-28, 30-19, 23-30, 17-15 victory over Lansing Community College Thursday.

Hough also had 15 digs in another Michigan Community College Athletic Association over Lake Michigan College. The Chargers will play in the MCCAA tournament beginning today in Muskegon, MI.

She also had 29 digs in a loss to Grand Rapids Tuesday, and racked up 30 digs in tournament action at John A. Logan College Oct. 22.

Abby Arnold

The 2002 Jay County graduate aided the Ball State women’s swim team to a second-place finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet at Purdue Oct. 22.

Arnold’s best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She teamed with Michelle Huang, Meghan Patterson and Erica Paul to finished second behind Purdue in 1-minute, 40.36 seconds.

The Cardinal team, which scored 590 points, trailed only the Boilermakers (843) in the final standings of the six-team event.

Arnold also finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.17, and was ninth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.55

Cameron Hummel

The Rose-Hulman senior and 2002 Jay County graduate led the Engineers in rushing, but it was not enough as they fell 20-7 to Sewanee (University of the South) Oct. 22.

Hummel finished with 76 yards on 12 carries for Rose-Hulman, which dropped to 5-3 with the defeat. He also completed 12-of-25 passes for 86 yards.

Jill Roughia

The 2005 Jay County graduate helped the Huntington University women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Mid-Central Conference cross country championships Oct. 22.

Roughia placed fourth on the team and 35th overall in 20-minutes, 32 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
