Keep an eye on medicine (01/19/07)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Parents and grandparents: There has been an extreme increse in the number of juveniles illegally dealing in prescription drugs on school property. This would be a class A felony if committed by an adult. There have been children overdosing on these medications and it is a serious legal problem for the children.
The school and justice system has taken a hardline approach to this problem, but parents and grandparents, your help is needed. What I am asking for is that parents and grandparents place all their medication in a secure container.
Also, if your child is on medication, do not trust them to have possession of their own medicine. Do not think for one minute that this could not happen to your child, because every child that I have seen, their parents stated, "I can't believe my child was dealing in drugs."
Please help by securing your medications.
Sincerely,
Ron May, juvenile probation officer, Jay County
Remember
To the editor:
Albert Pike (1809-1891), an American lawyer, Confederate General and writer, said: What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal."
I did not know Sidney Hall, but that sounds like that was the type of person he was. We can all learn from this unfortunate tragedy. So unexpectedly and sudden.
