Keep focused on the important issues (05/08/07)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

The situation we currently have in our country is reminiscent of elementary school. Children crying "no fair" when things didn't go their way. You would think that would be outgrown. Life isn't always fair.

We have so many critical problems to deal with in our country that the "no fairs" should be less concerned about their petty complaints and focus on something outside of themselves. Instead, they yell "unconstitutional" no matter how minor. Our country was based on and continues to print on our money, "In God We Trust." I'm sure they spend the money.

We have so many liberties in this country that some people feel this gives them the right to do wrong - like undisciplined children. I hardly think the writers of the constitution expected it to be used for whiners and license plates! Get your mind off yourself and alternative lifestyles, and look around. We have poverty, AIDS, health care, starvation, and global warming to concern us. We are also involved in a war that is dividing our nation and killing our military.

As a Democracy, the will of the people should be supreme. Patriotism erodes when the voice of the people is ignored. A dictator does not listen. He hears only himself and pleases only himself. Does this sound familiar?

The American people, as well as the media, have been mislead, and in some cases, lied to. We are fed information to serve covert purposes. I love my country, but I'm ashamed of the way it is being despoiled by self-serving politicians. Why does Mr. Bush claim to care so much about other countries becoming democracies when we have begun to resemble a dictatorship?

He was elected to serve the country. Not himself and his close-knit group.

When it comes to civil liberties it is important. Slavery, segregation, labor issues, equality, women's rights, and religious freedom are worthy issues. The constitution was never intended to justify alternate lifestyles or infringement on the rights of others. Quit crying "no fair" and concern yourself with important issues that concern more than your own petty wishes.

Think about the bigger issues such as an administration that ignores a 35 percent approval rating. That means that the preference of 65 percent of the nation don't matter. The fact that the truth we know is chosen by others. These are concerns serious enough to keep your mind on issues bigger than the plate on your car. They affect all Americans and the future of our nation. The courts are slow and bogged down by the "no fairs."

Grow up.
