Kelly thanks contributors (02/13/2009)

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

On Jan. 30 the Red Cross had a blood drive in my honor. Jeri Garringer and Jim Bruner contacted me and asked for my permission to use my name for this blood drive, which I was very glad to give.

A lot of people don't realize how very important it is. I have cancer and without blood, I couldn't have survived. I want to thank everyone who gave and helped. You don't know how much it meant to the many people you helped.

I was also in Jay County Hospital Feb. 1-5. The care I received was very good. I wish to thank everyone involved. They were very caring and professional.

Thanks to Dr. Vormohr, Dr. Whetsell and Dr. Jordan, and a special thanks to the lab crew and the nurses. They are a special group.

The only thing I didn't care for was the bed alarm.

Thanks to all.

Army thanks

To the editor:

With the holidays behind us, the Jay County Salvation Army would like to thank all the volunteers who made this year's fundraiser a success. Without you, many who are less fortunate would not receive the help they desperately need.

Thank you to Dolphus Stephens and Flo Golden, who organized the high school students. Thank you to James Fennig of Wal-Mart for your continued support. Thank you to the local merchants who placed collection buckets on their counters. Thank you to the students of Jay County High School who braved the snow, wind and cold temperatures to help others. Thank you to the community for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Denise Brewster,

Chairman, Jay County

Encouraging

To the editor:

For the last three years a group of us have been in a Bible study called Disciple. At the moment we are studying the letters that Paul had written in the New Testament.

There was an exercise in the workbook encouraging us to write a letter to a group or someone in a leadership role in our community to improve society. This letter was to be written similarly to Paul's form. This may seem strange to some of you who are reading this, but you must keep in mind that it is to follow Paul's style.

Dear concerned citizens,

Greetings. May the Grace and Peace of our Lord be with you. Thanks be to God that you received, and are taking the time to read, this letter. I am concerned with the morale of our society. I feel that if you teach people to be giving, loving and try their best to be an asset to society that we will all be better for it. It is my opinion that for us to all be more Christ-like would be a positive advantage to living in harmony.

It must start at the top with our leaders, and work down to the smallest of individuals. If we don't change the way we treat one another, it is only going to get worse. We must teach people to give from the heart, to be positive, and to show compassion to others. This is the only way to live in peace. May our God of peace and grace be with you now and always.
