Kirby to run for commissioner (01/24/08)
A longtime county office holder has joined the race to shake up the make-up of Jay County Commissioners.
Gerald Kirby, 30 S. Union St., Redkey, filed Wednesday to run for the Democratic nomination for Commissioner of the South District.
Gary Theurer, a Democrat who currently holds the seat, has indicated he does not plan to run for re-election.
At the end of this year, Theurer will have served for 12 years as a commissioner.
Kirby, who is currently a longtime member of the Jay County Council, also formerly served as Jay County Sheriff.
No Republicans have declared their intention to run for the expected vacancy.
Incumbent North District Commissioner Faron Parr, a Republican, is currently unopposed.
Joining the race for the Republican nomination for coroner Wednesday was Bryant resident Warren A. Boice.
Boice, 209 N. Hendricks St., joins the race along with fellow Republican Paulette Bonvillian Wagner of Portland.
They will compete for the nomination to run in the general election against incumbent Democrat Mark Barnett.
The primary is May 6, while the general/school board election is set for Nov. 4.[[In-content Ad]]
