Koesters, Roessner take 10th (06/02/08)
FRHS track
DAYTON, Ohio - The Indians' streak was broken Saturday.
After three consecutive years in which the Fort Recovery High School girls track team sent an athlete to the state finals, the Tribe's 2008 season ended at the regional meet. Tina Roessner and Anne Koesters turned in 10th-place finishes on the section day of the Division III regional meet at Perc Welcome Stadium, well short of the top-four result needed to earn a state berth.
Holly Stein qualified for the state meet five times in the previous three seasons, finishing seventh in the discus as a senior.
Roessner represented the Indians' best hope Saturday as her district time made her the No. 3 seed in the 3,200-meter run. But her pace at the regional meet didn't stand up.
The junior was nearly a minute slower than a week earlier, finishing in 12-minutes, 51.2 seconds. Her district time was 11:57.93.
Mary Prakel of Versailles won the event in 11:52.25, and the fourth and final state qualifying spot went to Minster's Averie Bornhorst in 12:03.61.
Koesters performed to her seed in the shot put, although her toss was more than a foot shorter than at the Minster district. She recorded a top distance of 33 feet, ¼ inch while Christine Borchers of Versailles won at 40 feet, 1¼ inches.
Holly Brunswick in the long jump for the Indians and finished 15th at 15 feet, 4¾ inches. She also had the best finish for Fort Recovery at the regional level, having finished sixth in Tuesday's high jump competition.
