Koesters, Snyder lead Fort (12/24/07)

FORT RECOVERY - A double-digit run was more than enough to put the Indians in control.
The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team ran off 18 straight points Saturday as they pounded the visiting Ansonia Tigers 69-39. It is now 5-2 on the season.
The Indians led just 12-8 six minutes into the game, before an Emily May hoop kicked off their big run. Joanna Snyder, Anne Koesters and Lauren Day took care of the rest, scoring the remaining 16 points for a 30-8 lead.
Fort Recovery proceeded to hold the Tigers without a field goal in the second quarter, out-scoring them 22-5 for a 41-13 halftime advantage.
Koesters and Snyder each had field days against Ansonia, combining for more points than the entire visiting squad. Koesters shot 10-of-14 (71 percent) from the field as she scored 22 points, and Snyder hit 5-of-9 field goals, including 3-of-4 from long distance, and 7-of-8 at the foul line for 20 points.
Snyder added 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, all team highs, and Koesters grabbed seven boards. Day and Josie Guggenbiller each scored nine points, and May had four steals.
Ashley McEldowney scored 14 points for the Tigers, who went just 3-of-21 (14 percent) from the field before the intermission. They shot 28 percent for the game.
Danielle Platfoot added 11 points and five rebounds.
Junior varsity
The Indians improved to 6-1, dominating Ansonia throughout for a 62-26 victory.
Kendra Brunswick had a huge game off the bench for Fort Recovery, which outscored the Tigers by at least six points in every quarter. She shot 6-of-12 from the field, with all but one of her shots coming from long distance, for a total of 19 points. She led the Indians with four assists.
Olivia Thien added 14 points - she shot 6-of-11 from the field with two 3-pointers - while grabbing six rebounds. Abby Huelskamp also had six boards.
Sara Mayo led Ansonia with nine points, and also grabbed five rebounds. Kendra Reier had six points, and Sarah Amspaugh totaled eight rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
