Krieg picked to lead sewer plant

A former Jay School Corporation employee has been named as Portland's new wastewater treatment plant superintendent.

The appointment of Ronald Krieg, Portland, former director of facilities for the school system, is effective Thursday.

He replaces David McGraw, who has served as interim plant superintendent since October.

Portland Mayor Bruce Hosier said this morning that current staff at the wastewater treatment plant will be retained, meaning the department will have one additional employee than normal.

Hosier said that if an employee retires or leaves employment with the department, he or she will not be replaced. Wastewater treatment plant employees are paid through the city's utility funds.

McGraw took over after longtime superintendent Bob Brelsford was demoted and suspended for 15 days. City officials have declined to say why Brelsford was demoted and suspended.

Krieg worked for the school corporation from 1996 until resigning earlier this year. Before taking the job with the school corporation, he worked for Portland Electric, Sheller Globe and served as head of maintenance for Pak-A-Sak.

He has more than 30 years of supervisory and leadership experience, as well as experience in the maintenance and electrical fields, according to a press release released today by Hosier.

Hosier also announced today that all other department heads and members of the Portland Board of Works have been reappointed for 2010.

Those reappointments include: Doug Jackson, water department; Jeff Harker, streets/parks; Robert Sours, police chief; Matt Aker, fire chief; and Bob McCreery and Bill Gibson (board of works).[[In-content Ad]]
