Lack of photo is questioned (06/20/06)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

Don’t get me wrong, the local sports coverage has been done well throughout the past years. For example, the 2006 state basketball finals. But what about the sports that haven’t basked in the limelight? It seems, in my opinion, that they would enjoy the treatment.

The Jay County High School spring sports, whose banquets were recently held, cannot even manage to recognize their four- and three-year varsity award recipients without paying a hefty fee for a spot in the newspaper. The reason for this apparently is because the award ceremonies were not held during the time when school is in session — even after being personally invited by the coaches of a specific team.

Apparently, it’s just too bad, considering that most of the spring post-seasons go well into the summer.

So while most are already enjoying their long-awaited break, many athletes are still getting ready for the next game or meet. I think that these kids, who add so much to the spring sports programs, should at least get the courtesy of getting a photograph in the newspaper — some for the first and/or last time of their high school career.

Sincerely,

Chad Miller

Editor’s note: The coverage of the 2006 JCHS spring sports awards was complicated by the fact that each sport held its own banquet, instead of collectively. The fact that the banquets were held during summer break was not a factor in the coverage plans of The Commercial Review.[[In-content Ad]]
