FORT RECOVERY — In an executive session Monday night, the village council here decided to offer the open position of full-time police officer to 24-year-old Fort Recovery resident Jared Laux.
Laux’s hiring is subject to a final agreement on a compensation package and his passing a physical, psychiatric and polygraph tests. If all tests are passed and an agreement can be reached, Laux could be in position by the first of the year village administrator Randy Diller said this morning.
The village employs two full-time officers.
In its regular session, the council passed a resolution to set up an amenities account to send flowers and cards to village employees, past and present, who are ill or to the families of those who have died. Resolutions also were passed for year-end appropriation adjustments and the annual end-of-the-year fund transfers.
Also, Diller was authorized to purchase a 900-foot storm-sewer pipe at a cost of $6,700 for the Gwendolyn Street storm sewer reconstruction project. The work will begin as weather allows sometime after the first of the year.
The replacement of the 1997 Crown Victoria police cruiser also was discussed Monday evening.
Diller said each police cruiser is in a six-year rotation, and the 1997 vehicle is scheduled to be retired at the end of the year. The council decided to postpone its decision until next month, because the cruiser hasn’t been used as much due to turn over in police officers the village has had in the past two years.
The state bid for a police cruiser is just under $20,000. The council also will decide whether to trade in the cruiser or find another user for it.
In other news, the council presented outgoing Mayor John Wolfe with a plaque for his dedication to the office he held for the last 12 years. Wolfe’s term will end when incoming mayor, Roger Broerman, is sworn in at the first of the year.
Also, the records commission met before the council meeting to agree to the destruction of old records that are no longer relevant. These records are mostly old village income tax papers, Diller said.[[In-content Ad]]
