Lead slips away from the Indians (05/06/08)

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - The Indians had their first conference win within their grasp. But it slipped away.
The New Bremen Cardinals scored three times in the final two innings Monday to knock off the Fort Recovery High School softball team 3-2.
Two runs in the top of the fifth inning gave the Indians the lead, only to have New Bremen score once in the sixth and twice in the bottom of the seventh to grab the win.
Beth May took the loss, giving up one unearned run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings. Kinsey Wenning allowed two runs - one earned - on five hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.
Joanna Snyder singled and drove in a run for FRHS, which dropped to 5-15 overall and 0-5 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Amy Hart singled and scored once, Heather Schmackers had an RBI, Val Fortkamp scored a run and Wenning doubled.
Junior varsity
FORT RECOVERY - The Indians rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game, but still fell 7-5 to New Bremen.
Andi Sutter suffered the defeat as she gave up seven runs - three earned - on five walks and three hits. She struck out two.
Olivia Thien had two hits, two runs and two RBIs, and Sutter added two hits, a run and an RBI. Carly Staugler went 2-for-4 with a double and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
