Leaders at their best
Editorial
The message was clear, and it was consistent.
In the Farmers’ Building Saturday morning at the Jay County Fairgrounds, the judge of the 4-H cat show was talking to the kids.
She was funny, self-deprecating, and obviously passionate about cats.
She was just as passionate about the need to spay and neuter.
Within days of taking ownership of a cat, she said, you should take it to the veterinarian to have it “fixed.”
In a perfect world, every kitten would have a loving home; but it’s not a perfect world, and stray cats are a growing problem.
Not too far away a little later in the day, leaders of the 4-H Dog Club were on the microphone between portions of the dog show. The club has been raising money to help fund the spaying and neutering of animals at the Jay County Humane Society Shelter, and organizers were hoping to match some of that money with donations from the crowd.
Again, the message was clear and consistent: Love your pets, but help control the unwanted pet population.
In a very basic way, 4-H leaders were doing what they do best on Saturday. They were leading. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
