Lehman Catholic overpowers Indians (09/05/07)

Fort Recovery volleyball

FORT RECOVERY - A 2006 regional finalist proved too much for the Tribe.

Lehman Catholic dropped the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team back to .500 Tuesday, knocking off the Indians 25-14, 25-18, 25-20. The Cavaliers lost to eventual state runner-up New Knoxville in the 2006 regional championship round.

Joanna Snyder led Fort Recovery, now 3-3, with six blocks and five points, and Sarah Braun was right behind her with five blocks and five points. Emily May shared the team high of seven digs with Heather Schmackers, and also finished with three kills.

Nicole Pottkotter finished with 12 assists, and Kinsey Wenning added 11 kills.

The Indians will host Minster Thursday at 6 p.m.

Junior varsity

Josie Guggenbiller helped keep the Indians perfect, leading them in kills, assists and blocks in a 25-9, 26-24 victory over the Cavaliers.

Guggenbiller shared each of those team highs as she racked up eight assists, six kills and six blocks. Chelsey Leuthold added 13 points and eight digs.

Carly Staugler finished with eight assists for Fort Recovery (3-0), Lorraine Shier had six kills and Olivia Thien had six blocks. Alyssa Brackman totaled 12 digs, and Holly Brunswick had six points.

Freshman

The Versailles Tigers handed Fort Recovery its first defeat, 25-12, 25-20.

Shelby Brunswick and Kendra Brunswick each finished with four points and a kill to lead the Indians, who improved to 3-1. Shelby also had three digs and one block, and Kendra added two assists.

Haley Wilson came up with 14 digs, and Holly Thien had two blocks.

Junior high

Amy Link powered the Indians' seventh grade team to a comeback win by a 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 score over the Minster Wildcats. The eighth graders lost, 25-13, 25-9.

Link powered the Fort Recovery seventh graders to their first win with nine points and two blocks. Chelsea Pottkotter had nine points, and Janelle Schwieterman finished with two assists.

Ericka Lennartz scored for points as the eighth grade squad dropped to 1-2. Kylie Kahlig had two points.[[In-content Ad]]
