Lehman helps set record

Two former Starfires competed Friday in Angola.
One helped set a school record. The other was part of a pair of second-place finishes.
Tim Lehman, a 2012 South Adams High School graduate, ran for a record-setting relay for the Goshen College men’s track team at the Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic hosted by Trine, and Alli Beitler posted second-place efforts for the Maple Leaf women in individual and relay events.
Lehman ran the 400-meter leg of the distance medley as he teamed with Luke Graber, Daniel Zelaya and Ryan Smith to set a school-record. They posted a time of 10 minutes, 38.23 seconds, and finished fifth overall.
Lehman also posted a time of 53.1 to take fourth in his heat and 12th overall in the 400 dash.
Beitler earned a second-place finish in the women’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:41.29 seconds. She also teamed with Dana Christner, Hannah Barg and Irene Schmid to take the runner-up spot in the distance medley in 13:58.38.
Wade Gelhaus
FRHS – 2013
Poured in a career-high 22 points Jan. 30 in the Saginaw Valley State University men’s basketball team’s 88-76 loss to Grand Valley State.
Gelhaus was an efficient scorer for the Cardinals (7-1), shooting 7-of-9 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line. He also had four rebounds, one steal and one block.
The freshman had four points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal in an 80-58 loss Monday to Northwood.
Greg Kahlig
FRHS – 2010
Racked up 29 points Monday to lead the University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 74-71 victory over Hillsdale.
Kahlig shot 10-of-18 from the field and hit three 3-pointers on the way to his game-high scoring total.
He also had four rebounds, four blocks, four assists and a steal.
The senior had 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds as the Oilers (15-4) topped Malone 84-63 Saturday.
He totaled eight points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal in an 81-61 loss Jan. 30 to Walsh.

JCHS – 2010
Helped give coach Lori Culler her 500th career win Wednesday as the NAIA Division II No. 24 Huntington University women’s basketball team defeated Indiana Wesleyan 51-49.
Speed scored nine points for the Foresters, who improved to 18-6. She also had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
She had team highs of 21 points, eight assists and five steals to go along with three rebounds in Saturday’s 72-50 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Hannah Moore
SAHS – 2012
Was part of a pair of top-five finishes as she ran Saturday for the Huntington University women’s track team at the Taylor Indoor Invitational.
Moore posted a time of 11 minutes, 16.34 seconds, to take fifth place out of 30 competitors in the 3,000-meter run.
She and teammates Krista Wood, Gretchen Spahr and Kim Elser took the runner-up spot in the distance medley in 14:04.44.

Also competed at the Taylor Indoor Invitational, taking part in the weight throw for the Grace College men’s team.
Back recorded a distance of 11.82 meters (36 feet, 9 inches) in the weight throw. He finished 26th overall.[[In-content Ad]]
